Protected? Think Again! Obamacare Will Force All Citizens to Fund Abortion

health careMartinsburg, WV – Finally we are starting to get the “big picture” of just how Obamacare will impact every individual on a personal level. This isn’t the first time I have talked about conscience protections and exemptions; you can click here for other articles on the subject.

What is now coming to light is the fact that Obamacare will indeed violate the pro-life conscience rights of many Americans. In fact, if recent polls are to be believed, more than 60% of Americans are pro-life. That’s not just a majority, that’s a super-majority. And yet our president (the most pro-abortion president in American history) has decided not just to ignore the pro-life views of Americans, but to blatantly attack those views with policies that would force pro-life Americans to support, and fund abortion.

Take a look at these new measures to be included in Obamacare:

“The Obama administration has initially approved a recommendation from the Institute of Medicine suggesting that it force insurance companies to pay for birth control and drugs that can cause abortions under the Obamacare government-run health care program…The IOM recommendation, opposed by pro-life groups, called for the Obama administration to require insurance programs to include birth control — such as the morning after pill or the ella drug that causes an abortion days after conception — in the section of drugs and services insurance plans must cover under ‘preventative care.’ The companies will likely pass the added costs on to consumers, requiring them to pay for birth control and, in some instances, drug-induced abortions of unborn children in their earliest days.”

What about the conscience/religious exemptions put in place to protect the moral opposition to such funding held by so many Americans and organizations? We all remember that we were assured by President Obama and others that safeguards for moral objections to funding abortion would be put in place. We were told over and over that abortion would not be funded in the new health-care laws. Right?

Here’s what is being said of the new health-care law as it stands:

“…the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA or Obamacare) ‘excluded longstanding protections for conscience rights on abortion, by failing to apply the annual Hyde/Weldon amendment to the billions of dollars newly appropriated by the Act.’ And it created new open-ended mandates for ‘essential health benefits’ and ‘preventive services’ to be included in almost all private health plans, without any provision for individuals or institutions that may have a moral or religious objection to particular items or procedures.”

Did you get that? All those “promises” about Obamacare not funding abortion and protections for conscience/religious exemptions for those morally opposed to abortion were fairy tales.  The fact is, as it stands, unless something drastically changes and the Supreme Court strikes down the health-care law, all of us will be, in some way or another funding abortion.

Congressman Joe Pitts addressed the proposed changes:

“Now, we have the federal Department of Health and Human Services forcing every single person in this country to pay for services that they may morally oppose…Whether one supports or opposes the health care law, we should universally support the notion that the federal government should be prohibited from taking coercive actions to force people to abandon their religious principles.”

Rep. Tim Murphy also comments on the dangerous changes:

“Since this rule was released I have heard an outpouring of concern…from over 1,000 individual constituents, and a range of employers…I have a hard time explaining to them that the federal government is forcing them to choose between their faith, and providing health insurance to their employees. This mandate stands in stark contrast to the stated purpose of healthcare reform— expanding access to health care.”

In the end rather than providing greater access to health care and protecting the conscience rights of American citizens, Obamacare will further limit access to health care when employers choose not to provide it rather than violate their own conscience, and, it will force pro-life citizens to fund abortion. Doesn’t quite sound like the same piece of legislation we were forced to accept, does it?

Let’s pray the Supreme Court recognizes the grievous violation of rights within this law and strikes it down as unconstitutional; as lower courts have already done. Doing so would be a victory for freedom, conscience rights, democracy, and the unborn.
