One More Thing on SGK v. PP: The Selfishness of Planned Parenthood
Ok, it’s quite possible that, after this week, we are all sick and tired of trying to sort out what has happened between Planned Parenthood (PP) and Susan G. Komen (SGK) Foundation. I can’t get it out of my head.
Intrinsically, we all know that it stinks, it’s not good, something is rotten, but we can’t quite put our finger on it. That’s because it does stink, it’s not good, and it is rotten. And I think I know why.
When yesterday I wrote this post, I don’t want to give the impression that I was attempting to defend SGK’s past and present partnership with PP. I’m not. They shouldn’t have ever formed an alliance with PP. But I think they realize that now and, likewise, they realize just how difficult it is to extricate themselves from that partnership.
But, let’s shine the spotlight back on where it is most deserved: Planned Parenthood. I want to, in this post, simply point out the extreme selfishness of PP.
PP’s talking point has always been, as it concerns their connection to SGK, that PP cares for women, poor women, and wants to help promote good breast health, etc. Frankly, let’s give them partial credit; some of that is true. But the reality is that all the breast exams (non-mammography) in the world cannot morally justify the 325,000 deletions of innocent human life that PP perpetrates every single year.
PP would never have to worry about funding with SGK if they simply removed that element of their business. But, they cannot do it. Ideologically, they are enslaved to the destruction of human life. That enslavement has forced them to selfishly aggrandize for themselves massive amounts of wealth to continue their destructive agenda.
It’s sad, really. No, it’s evil. PP has placed their own preservation over the safety and health of their clients. They care more about existing to take 325,000+ human lives (many of whom are women) ever year, than they do about women’s health.
Think about it, if they truly cared about the health and safety of women, why not simply use the SGK grants to buy mammography equipment? Why – if your concern truly is women’s health – invest so heavily in the abortion side of their business when there is a known link between abortion and breast cancer?
Though PP has done much to try to frame the debate as having been riled up by a bunch of political activists, it seems they are just a bunch of pots calling kettles black! So long as the primary part of their business is the destruction of innocent human lives, their accusations ring hollow.
An unselfish PP would take SGK’s decision in stride. They would rise above the fray, recognize that their business is a dark one that will result in their being investigated by government from time to time. (That’s a whole other post. Does it seem odd to you that PP is indignant that they should be investigated? Hello! At a minimum, they perform an invasive outpatient surgery that most states (including WV) do not even require repeated follow up medical treatments or even require the minimal medical standards of a veterinary clinic. Investigations – especially for groups that receive hundreds of thousands of state and millions of federal taxpayer dollars – are a minimally appropriate standard to set on PP.)
If PP were unselfish, they would politely disagree with SGK and appeal to their supporters to raise the funds that SGK removes. But that’s not what they did. They spiked the story and engaged in a scorched earth media campaign to destroy SGK’s reputation.
In the process, do you see the utter selfishness? It’s like PP is saying, “We are the only ones who truly care about women’s health. SGK doesn’t.”
That is repugnant. While I disagree with SGK’s decision ever to come near PP, it is undeniable that SGK has done a world of difference to save the lives of women.
At a minimum, SGK can say with great confidence at least one thing that PP can NEVER say: SGK has never willingly and intentionally taken money to kill a woman.
