Final Recap of Articles on PRENDA and Sex Selective Abortion

Rep. Trent Franks

Maybe you think we’re being superfluous this week with our numerous posts on sex-selective abortion taking place here in America. I hope not, but in case you do I want to emphasize the gravity of this issue. What is taking place is the targeted killing of innocent children based solely on their gender. This is not about is there a deformity, or a genetic issue – though even those reasons aren’t grounds for abortion. This is nothing more than a consumerist mentality spurred on by the abortion industry that abortion isn’t really killing; it’s the means to an end: getting the right gendered child.

You can read my original post on the subject and see the videos released by Live Action from inside a Planned Parenthood clinic as the clinic worker happily obliges in the “termination” of a baby simply because it is a girl. You can also read our other articles in this series by clicking here, here, or here.

To close this series I want to post a number of articles from last week and this week on the topic.

President Obama Opposes Ban on Sex-Selection Abortions

In case anyone is wondering where President Obama stands, this article should clear it up quickly. President Obama has proven throughout his entire first term that he is indeed the most pro-abortion president in U.S. history. He has given more money to the abortion industry, opposed pro-life bills, threatened veto for bills over pro-life provisions, and done everything in his power to advance the abortion-for-any-reason mentality.

House Rejects Bill Banning Sex-Selective Abortion

This video of Rep. Trent Franks – a sponsor of the PRENDA bill – details the bill’s defeat in the House of Representatives last week. The bill needed a two-thirds majority to pass under the special procedures used to bring the vote, but fell short. Representatives like Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Mike Kelly (R-PA) voiced their disbelief that the bill failed and that anyone would have a problem protecting “little girls” from sex-selective abortion.

House Rejects Bill to Ban Sex-Selective Abortions

This New York Times article shares some of the sentiments of Senate Democrats that voted against the PRENDA bill. I am assuming none of them saw the undercover videos released by Live Action of girls seeking sex-selective abortions, because that’s the only way I can fathom anyone saying “there is no problem in this country of abortion for gender selection.” Or maybe they didn’t get the memo from the Susan B. Anthony list which “cited three studies that she said documented the use of sex-selective abortion, largely among a small number of women from various immigrant groups.” Either way it’s ridiculous.

Democrats Defeat Bill to Ban Sex-Selection Abortions

This article from our friends at gives a nicely detailed run down of the events from last week. The article specifically reports the language used in the bill that was voted on, and how each party voted. The four major points of the bill are hard to argue against, though many Senate Democrats found a way to do so.

After reading these articles you can’t help but believe that President Obama has emboldened the abortion industry with his partnership and federal funds. With so many Americans professing to be pro-life, it seems to make sense for the president to respect the convictions of the majority of Americans to defend life and defund abortion.

This underscores a central issue it the upcoming election: life. Will we continue to support abortion and the most pro-abortion president in U.S. history, or will we elect someone that will defend life. It’s a major issue.
