How far are you willing to go to protect your religious freedom? That is the question many are answering by risking arrest in order to protest Obama’s HHS mandate demanding they pay for abortion, contraception, sterilization and abortifacients in their health care premiums. Members of the group ActsFive29 were arrested while praying peacefully in front of the White House over the weekend. They were there to stand for religious freedom. One article shares: “Obamacare will force institutions, churches and individuals to purchase abortion-inducing drugs and pay for sterilization and abortion in direct opposition to their beliefs, conscience and historic teachings of the Church. With the recent Supreme Court ruling affirming Obamacare, the future of religious freedom in America is at risk and in grave danger of being entirely wiped out.” One man told reporters exactly why he was there: “I am here today as a father of seven children who is willing to lose my freedom to protect my children’s future freedom.” While some would argue the logic of being arrested for defending their rights, I believe this group is living out the words of Acts 5:29 and hope more Christians will be shaken from their apathy and make a stand. How can we say we are opposed to abortion and then sit by silently while our government forces us to pay for it? This is theologically, and intellectually hypocritical.
