SBA List LogoMartinsburg, WV – By now you know that here at the Family policy Council of West Virginia (FPCWV) we are committed to bringing you the relevant news regarding those that plan to run for President in 2012. In particular we want to make sure you know where candidates stand on the issues of life, marriage, and religious freedom. As we advocate for policies that seek to defend the sanctity of life, enrich marriage and safeguard religious freedoms, we want to make sure you know which candidates have views similar to ours.

To that end I want to bring and update on the issue of life as it relates to potential GOP candidates. Last week I reported on some initial comments by the presidential hopefuls from the New Hampshire debate.  While those are strong comments, they are, after all, just words. Some candidates have chosen to put actin behind their words and further strengthen their pro-life position; others, not so much.

It has been reported that the Susan B. Anthony List, one of our nation’s most respected pro-life organizations, has asked each of the 2012 candidates to sign its Pro-Life Leadership Presidential Pledge. Of the seven frontrunners five signed the pledge while two, Mitt Romney and Herman Cain, did not.

Lifenews.com reports:

“Signers of the pledge include Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Tim Pawlenty and Rick Santorum and the pro-life organization is calling on pro-life activists to put pressure on those candidates who have refused to sign, Mitt Romney, Herman Cain, and Gary Johnson. Johnson’s not signing is no surprise given his pro-abortion views but Romney has been campaigning as a pro-life candidate since converting to the pro-life position before the 2008 presidential election. Cain has said he holds pro-life views and has repeatedly excoriated Planned Parenthood for targeting the black community with its abortion facilities.”
