Religious Freedom Win: Obama admin Withdraws Lawsuit Against Christian Business

A major religious freedom victory took place when the Obama administration abandoned its lawsuit against Tyndale House publishers – the world’s largest publisher of Bibles. Obama had initially sought to force Tyndale to obey the HHS mandate, but has since withdrawn the lawsuit against Tyndale. It could be as the Alliance Defending Freedom has reported, that Obama doesn’t want to try and convince a court that a Bible publisher is not “religious enough” for an exemption. A recent article states:

“In a huge victory for pro-life advocates taking on the controversial HHS mandate, the Obama administration is giving up its effort to force a Bible publisher to obey it…Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys representing Tyndale House Publishers say the administration is apparently nervous about trying to defend its position that a Bible publisher is not religious enough for a religious exemption to the mandate.” Click here for original article.

Sen. Ted Cruz Warns the HHS Mandate Will Upend Religious Freedom

As the courts continue to side with people of faith against the HHS mandate, Sen. Ted Cruz is sounding the alarm over the danger posed to religious freedom by the mandate. He recently said: ”Is ‘the freedom to worship’ the same as ‘freedom of religion’? No it isn’t. The freedom of religion entails much more than being able to ‘worship;’ it includes being able to live out your faith. And that means to conduct your affairs – for-profit or nonprofit –so as to honor your deepest beliefs. If freedom of religion is reduced to ‘freedom of worship,’ does your right to religion stop when you walk out the front door of your church, temple, or mosque?”

Obama continues to emphasize his commitment to “freedom to worship.” But as Sen. Cruz and others have said, that is very different than religious freedom. Many are seeking to push religion inside the walls of the church and make sure that all religious rights are held captive within those walls. They want all public displays of faith halted permanently. This mandate is just the beginning of attempting to make that happen. Click here for original article.

Religious Freedom Victory: Hobby Lobby Granted New Hearing!

ChristianNews.net reports: “The popular craft chain Hobby Lobby has been granted a full rehearing of its case challenging Obamacare’s abortion pill mandate. The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals announced on Friday that Hobby Lobby’s appeal will go before the entire court as per the company’s request. Cases are customarily held before a panel of three judges, except in what are called en banc hearings…Judges with the court had previously refused to grant an injunction to Hobby Lobby, stating that the burden of Obamacare’s contraceptive coverage requirement was ‘indirect and attenuated.’”

If Hobby Lobby is given an injunction against ObamaCare it will signal a major religious freedom victory for the Christian-owned craft store. This victory could also set a precedent for other religiously-owned businesses that object to the pro-abortion policies mandated in the HHS mandate. ObamaCare continues to be defeated in nearly every case brought against it in court by those with religious objections. Despite this, Obama refuses to re-write any part of the HHS mandate to accommodate those with religious objections. Click here for original article.

Attorneys General Push Obama for Religious Exemption in HHS Mandate

When it comes to ObamaCare, West Virginia hasn’t exactly set a great example of rejecting the horrible legislation. In fact, West Virginia has decided to embrace it and force its citizens to pay for it. This is just another example of our lawmakers supporting big government expansion. But, some good news emerged when it was reported that West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has joined a letter to the Obama administration asking for greater religious protections against the HHS mandate. A recent article reports: “Twelve attorney generals have sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services asking that it expand the very narrow religious exemptions in the HHS mandate that require religious groups and companies to pay for birth control or drugs that may cause abortions…The letter signed by Pruitt cites the Religious Freedom Restoration Act as reason to grant broader exemptions to the federal act, including to all religious-affiliated nonprofits and to certain for-profit companies.” This is very encouraging as religious freedom has been under aggressive attack in recent years and West Virginia lawmakers seems uninterested in protecting our rights from those attacks. We thank AG Morrisey for his willingness to protect the religious freedoms of West Virginians and hope he will continue to stand for freedom. Click here for original article.

Engaging Weekend: Middle School Student Punished for Wearing Abstinence Shirt, Pro-Life Mobile App Helps Women, Manchin Breaks With Democrats on HHS Mandate

Middle School student wears abstinence t-shirt, school makes her remove it and wear ‘punishment’ t-shirt

A middle school in Florida is under fire after they made a student, Summer Schreiner, remove the pro-abstinence shirt she was wearing and put on a “discipline shirt” instead. A recent article reports: “The shirt actually says on the front ‘Don’t Drink & Park: Accidents Cause Kids’ and then shows a parked car below it. Clearly it’s a tame abstinence message but there’s really no sexual innuendo on it. And then she’s told to remove it and she’s made to wear a shirt the school supplies especially for these instances of ‘dress code violations’ that says ‘Tomorrow I will dress for success.’” I can see why they made her remove it; we can’t have kids promoting abstinence at schools where underage kids are present, that sends a bad message? This is absurdity at the highest level. To think that this shirt is somehow offensive, or violates some policy is ridiculous. I bet if she would have worn some pro-Planned Parenthood shirt that promotes abortion or the LGBT agenda she would have been unbothered. But those abstinence shirts are just too much, they have to go. This is what happens when the government is given oversight of education and parents ignore their responsibility to be engaged in that same education. They promote poor behaviors and actions while punishing character and values. Click here to watch the video or see original article.

FPCWV Joins Amicus Brief in Support of Religious Freedom, Against the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”)

Dys-HeadshotWe want you to know that we are on the front lines defending your religious freedom in West Virginia. To that end, the Family Policy Council of West Virginia (FPCWV) has joined a friend-of-the-court brief to the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals; along with several other policy councils the Alliance Defending Freedom and Americans United for Life, opposing the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare).

The basis for the brief was shared in a post by ADF recently:

“The employer mandate forces religious employers to provide health insurance coverage for their employees under the penalty of crippling fines. The brief supports a challenge to that mandate in Liberty University v. Geithner and concludes that the Obama administration’s related abortion pill mandate ‘draws all of its compulsive power from the employer mandate…and is but a symptom of the illness that is the employer mandate’s broad grant of power to HHS.’ Americans, including those who create and provide jobs, should be free to live according to their faith rather than be forced into surrendering their consciences…ObamaCare demands that Americans choose between two poison pills: either desert your faith to comply with the government, or resist and be punished. The Obama administration’s attacks on faith and employers prove that it doesn’t respect either one.”

Ohio Finding Ways Around ObamaCare

Lawmakers in the Ohio Legislature are set to introduce “The Health Care Freedom Act.” This bill is designed to protect citizens from the government imposed penalties associated with ObamaCare. A recent article explains: ”HCFA prohibits health insurance companies operating in Ohio from accepting any funding from the federal government that would result in potential penalties for employers or individuals.  If a company chooses to receive federal subsidies, their license would be suspended in the state.  While they would still be able to conduct business previously secured, the company would be barred from writing any new business until the funding is returned to the federal government.  Further, due to the rules set up within PPACA, the subsidized insurance company would be prohibited from participating in any exchange nationwide.”

With the amount of government over reach and infringement on civil and religious freedoms due to ObamaCare, it’s good to see lawmakers taking a stand and fighting to protect their citizens. To date, West Virginia has done nothing but agree to implement ObamaCare, passing on costs to citizens. This will no doubt put an incredible strain on already tight budgets for people throughout the state. It will also force people to violate their religious convictions by being forced to subsidize abortion in the state and around the country. Maybe our lawmakers should look to Ohio for a better example of what to do. Click here for original article.

U.S. Reps Aim to Protect Conscience Rights

While the Obama administration seems bent on taking away the conscience rights of Americans through its awful HHS mandate, some U.S. reps aim to protect those rights. IN an interview with WND.com, Rep. Fleming (R-LA) discussed his recent bill to safeguard the conscience rights of citizens, doctors, nurses, and medical professionals. He said of his bill:

“It applies a longstanding policy of conscience rights to the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. It provides doctors, nurses and other health care providers with protection from discrimination for choosing not to participate in an abortion, codifying the Hyde-Weldon Amendment…Third, it enables victims of the HHS mandate and discriminatory health practices to have their case heard in court…The government should not have the right to force you to participate in some type of behavior that is going to conflict with your conscience rights, and if it does or potentially does, you should have the ability to have access to courts, and currently that’s not necessarily the case…” At least someone is seeking to protect the “inalienable” rights of Americans. Doctor Says Plan B “Morning After” Pill Can Cause Abortion

Many pro-abortion advocates scoff at the idea that PLan B or, “Morning After” pills can cause abortion. They say this simply isn’t true. But a doctor with Princeton’s Office of Populatoin Research is letting everyone know that they can, in fact, cause abortion. A recent article reports:

“The same month that Germany’s bishops have backed the use of the morning-after pill for rape victims, one of the world’s leading authorities on the drug has said doctors have a duty to inform women that it could prevent a newly-conceived embryo from implanting in the womb, causing an abortion. Dr. James Trussell, Director of Princeton’s Office of Population Research, makes the statement in an academic review on the drug dated February 2013 and co-authored with Dr. Elizabeth G. Raymond. ‘To make an informed choice, women must know that [emergency contraceptive pills] … prevent pregnancy primarily by delaying or inhibiting ovulation and inhibiting fertilization, but may at times inhibit implantation of a fertilized egg in the endometrium…’” When this happen there is no doubt that an abortion has taken place. This is just one of the reasons why Christians nation-wise are fighting the HHS mandate that demands we provide such contraception in insurance plans; because they violate our religious beliefs. WV To Partner with Feds to Run Insurance Exchange

While 26 states decided to let the deadline for opening state-run insurance exchanges pass, several states decided to partner with the federal government to open the insurance exchanges. Most states opted to refuse to open the exchanges for any number of reasons, the most popular being cost, opposition to government controlled insurance, and lack of information. But some decided to partner with the feds and share the cost and control of insurance. West Virginia is one such state, a recent article explains:

“Jeremiah Samples, an official at the West Virginia Insurance Commission, said that West Virginia opted for a partnership exchange because state officials wanted to maintain some control over the regulation of health insurance in the state, but simply could not afford to run their own program. After months of analysis, officials decided that the size of the state’s market and the massive costs associated with information-technology costs necessary to set up the exchange made a state-run option financially unfeasible.” Sadly, West Virginia didn’t stand strong against the government but decided to give in and will no doubt pass the cost along to all of us.
