Take Action: Tell Senate to Reject ENDA

Citizenlink: “The so-called Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) would force businesses and organizations with 15 or more employees to provide special privileges to workers based on ‘actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.’ If passed into law, employers would not be able to consider the possible consequences of a man dressing as a woman, or a woman identifying as a man. The bill is expected to pass a key procedural vote this evening that requires 60 votes. That would lead to an up-or-down vote later this week.”

Already our very own Sen. Manchin has said he will support the ENDA bill. He needs to hear from us and know we don’t approve of creating a special class of citizen, limiting employers’ and employee’s freedom of religion, and the curtailing of free speech. Don’t sit back and let this opportunity to take action pass you by. Take a few moments to let Manchin and other lawmakers know just how opposed to ENDA West Virginian’s are. President Obama and Joe Manchin Support ENDA

ManchinOver the weekend President Obama wrote an op-ed which appeared in the Huffington Post encouraging Congress to pass the ENDA bill. ENDA stands for Employment Non-Discrimination Act. on the surface this sounds like a great bill to support. But like most things out of Washington it is filled with traps for many people. Bills like ENDA can be used to force religious employers to hire people who oppose their religious convictions. For example, a Christian school might be forced to hire a transgender teacher though said teacher’s lifestyle stands in opposition to the school doctrine.

Many lawmakers like to use ENDA as a hammer to bash religious employers over the head with discrimination charges. But it’s not discrimination to require employees to adhere to specific doctrinal positions. In fact, many churches are now writing into their Constitution and By-Laws protections against such laws which state any employees must adhere to specific church doctrines as a requirement for employment. This is not discrimination, it’s called religious freedom. But ENDA will threaten churches and religious organizations with lawsuits for simply desiring to live and do business according to their faith.

News also came out last week in which Sen. Manchin, after assuring us he would never support ENDA, has decided to vote in favor of the bill. Once again proving that he will do anything to advance his career even if it means lying to the people that elected him to office, Manchin has promised to support the bill when it comes to the Senate for a vote. Turning his back on West Virginians in favor of Washington, D.C. applause, Manchin is flip-flopping on his promise to oppose ENDA.

I think it’s time we let Sen. Manchin know what we think about his decision to flip-flop and support such a dangerous bill. You can reach Sen. Manchin at:

Planned Parenthood Helping ObamaCare While Breaking the Law

“A Planned Parenthood chapter operating as an official Obamacare navigator location gives out abortion pills too late in pregnancies and allows non-physicians to give out the pills…Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) – which received U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grant money to enroll people in the Obamacare exchanges — ignored FDA safety protocols by giving out abortion pills past 49 days of pregnancy and allowed non-physicians to give out the pills…”

Not surprising that Planned Parenthood is helping get people into ObamaCare. You might not know it, but Planned Parenthood stands to gain millions of dollars from people who enroll in ObamaCare and then seek abortions. But as usual, Planned Parenthood is breaking the law and acting like it’s no big deal. I guess when you have the president as an ally it doesn’t really matter what laws you obey and break. If the president can do it, so can his allies. Click here for original article.

Virginia Governor’s Race About More Than Just ObamaCare

Here’s how one article reported the support for a liberal running for Governor in Virginia: “Obama’s pitch for McAuliffe constituted a last-minute push by the White House and prominent Democrats to close the deal in the race’s final days. McAuliffe, the former Democratic National Committee chairman, has had help from former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Vice President Joe Biden was to do his part Monday, and first lady Michelle Obama lent her voice to radio ads backing McAuliffe.”

It seems McAuliffe has all the President’s men (and women) supporting him. I can only speak for myself, but that would be enough to make me want to hear from “the other guy.” McAuliffe is a liberal that supports abortion on demand, ObamaCare, marriage redefinition, and big government. What interests me is that he is very different than many of our lawmakers in West Virginia, and yet Virginia has common sense health and safety restrictions on abortion. While all most of our lawmakers claim to be pro-life, we still don’t even measures similar to a state that supported President Obama in the last election. That’s a problem. Join the #BeTransparent Tweetfest on Wednesday

The Obama administration and DHHR is not being honest with the American people about abortion coverage in the ObamaCare bill. They are also deliberately misleading people regarding plans that do and do not cover abortion. This is an attempt to get pro-life Americans enrolled in plans that will cover abortion without them knowing. In response to this deception, a Tweetfest has been arranged to coincide with a hearing in Congress on the issue. Our friends at American United for Life and Susan B. Anthony List shared information on the Tweetfest, which is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, October 30, from 9-12 noon.

To help you get involved we are sharing some sample tweets you could use to ask President Obama, DHHR, and Congress to be transparent regarding the issue of abortion in insurance plans. Take a look:

Tell #Sebelius to #BeTransparent.  Why won’t #Obamacare tell us which plans include abortion?
If u want to pick an #Obamacare plan without abortion, 2 bad b/c the exchanges won’t give you that information #BeTransparant
If u buy a plan with abortion, u have 2 pay a abortion surcharge, but #Obamacare won’t tell you which plans include abortion #BeTransparent
Tell Congress to #BeTransparent & pass #HR3279 so consumers can find out if they have to pay #Obamacare abortion surcharge
#Obamacare exchanges hide abortion surcharge.  Why won’t #Sebelius #BeTransparent?

Friends, we hope you will tweet, Tweet loud, and tweet often. Let’s make sure our lawmakers know just how opposed to abortion coverage in insurance plans we truly are. Tell them to #BeTransparent while we show them Americans are #ProLife.

From Mars Hill to the Holy See – Speaking Against Abortion

unborn babyI’ve been encouraged lately by the number of prominent people and organizations speaking up in defense of life. In my home state of West Virginia several dozen pastors and churches recently celebrated Illuminate Sunday; a day of praying for those harmed by abortion.

Though these pastors might be on a small stage in a country church somewhere lost in the hills, they represent a vast majority of people that believe abortion is a great immoral injustice perpetrated on our society by a rogue Supreme Court decision more than 40 years ago. But these humble Mountaineer pastors aren’t alone in their defense of the unborn.

Prominent West coast pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church recently penned an op-ed in which he reiterated the teaching of Scripture that abortion is murder, murder is sin, and therefore abortion is sin. Driscoll wrote:

“Both science and Scripture are absolutely clear that life begins at conception. Taking a human life is murder, by definition, which makes abortion a murderous act…Thanks to ultrasound technology and pro-life advocacy, our culture is beginning to accept the fact that an abortion doesn’t just remove “tissue” but ends a human life. Yet many persist in not only killing their child but also their conscience…this is a matter of justice—for the one million babies slaughtered every year as we play God and determine who lives and who dies…Abortion is not a matter of politics. It’s a matter of life and death, for 55 million and counting. Enough. You shall not murder.” [Read more...]

Engaging Weekend: New Effort to Celebrate Abortion Nationwide, Your Tax Dollars Supporting Abortion and Planned Parenthood, Pray for the Persecuted Church

Engaging Weekend is a collection of articles you might have missed over the weekend. But we thought they were important and wanted to make sure you had a chance to read them.

Campaign seeks to eliminate stigma of abortion with personal stories

You know what we need to do? We need to have book clubs and dinner parties to celebrate our abortions. Don’t you think? Well, at least one group is calling for women to do just that. They want to “start a new conversation” about abortion that will de-stigmatize it and instead, celebrate it. A recent article states: “Across the country, pro-abortion activists are calling for women to spark a personal, “new conversation about abortion access” in an effort to de-stigmatize the practice…The campaign’s website suggests activists host a ‘casual get-together,’ a ‘dinner or dessert party,’ have a book [club] to discuss the book ‘1 in 3: These Are Our Stories,’ and/or set up a table on campus or in the community to get the conversation going.” Hey, I’m in. I want to de-stigmatize abortion as well. I want to remove the idea that it is “healthcare,” or that it’s a woman’s body and therefore her choice when there is another unique human being involved. However, the thought of thinking that abortion is no different than running errands, changing clothes, or buying a new computer is patently false and offensive. We should be appalled that anyone would want us to think nothing of the murder of innocent children. Click here for original article.

Military Chaplains Banned by Obama Administration During Shut Down

A lapse in appropriations should not restrict the First Amendment rights of American citizens. However, furloughed chaplains are not being permitted to minister on base even voluntarily, thus denying our military personnel access to religious practices. Chaplains exist to facilitate the free exercise rights of our service members, a role which is critical for service members who do not have access to civilian priests or pastors.  Unfortunately, many military bases have indefinitely suspended religious services.  Contract chaplains must be permitted to continue their duties to ensure that members of the military may continue to exercise their First Amendment rights.

Representative Doug Collins, member of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, recently sponsored a resolution in the House of Representatives to protect the First Amendment freedoms of our military service members. The House passed H.Con.Res. 58, by an overwhelming vote of 400-1, emphasizing the total support for continued availability of religious services to service members and their families during the government  shutdown. The Senate has yet to vote on this essential measure.

Two members of Congress have expressed their concern through the following Press Releases:

  • Representative Tim Huelskamp stated, “Time and time again this Administration demonstrates it is waging a war against the very religious freedoms upon which America was founded. This is exactly why we worked to pass legislation (House Concurrent Resolution 58) this past weekend – to protect the religious liberties of all those who bravely serve in our Armed Forces.” Read full Press Release
  • Representative Doug Collins stated, “Denying the free expression of religion on military bases is unprecedented during a government shutdown and another shameless political ploy by President Obama’s administration to make average Americans suffer the most from Senate Democrats’ refusal to negotiate.  Congress is duty bound to act as quickly as possible to protect the rights of the American people, and I am proud that we did so today.” Read full Press Release

Congressman Tells Obama “You Can’t Break the Law”

LifeSiteNews: ”An Obama administration decision to force taxpayers to finance insurance plans that cover abortion for Congressional staffers violates the law and could provoke a lawsuit, prominent pro-life activists have said. Congressional staffers will be able to use hefty taxpayer subsidies – ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 according to Fox News – to purchase insurance through the ObamaCare state health exchanges that covers elective abortions. Taxpayer funds finance about 75 percent of staffers’ premiums. But under a 1983 ordinance that is still in effect, such funds can in no way cover abortion except in the cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother.”

This move by the Obama administration to appear to be following the law while actually subverting it prompted pro-life Congressman Chris Smith to tell President Obama “you can’t break the law.” Amazingly, the Obama administration is seeking to in fact break the law, or even re-write the law without going through Congress. This shows just how pro-abortion Obama is, and why he has certainly earned the title as the “most pro-abortion president in U.S. history.” Click here for original article.

Info-Graphic: How Abortion Will Be Expanded Under ObamaCare

There’s a lot of talk about whether or not abortion will be covered under ObamaCare or not. The fact is, it will be covered. Another fact is that every American citizen will be forced to pay for abortion drugs and services in their insurance premiums. The ObamaCare exchanges will not change that, as a recent article reports:

“Despite provisions of law including the Hyde Amendment governing appropriations for abortion; the Hyde-Weldon amendment barring discrimination against physicians, insurers, institutional providers and others with respect to their policies regarding providing, referring or paying for abortion; and the language governing the MSPs themselves, the Obama Administration and abortion funding advocates seem bent on pursuing numerous avenues for the ACA, and MSPs in particular, to make public abortion subsidies available to tens of thousands of girls and women of childbearing age.”
