As you read yesterday in Nathan Cherry’s great article on Planned Parenthood’s stepping in it deep with another sting that stung them badly, the buzz-word of the week should be gendercide – defined as  the selective aborting or killing of females by choice in order to bear a male child instead.

Gendercide just sounds so contrived that one would tend to pass it off as another culture quirk until you lift the lid and look inside the Pandora’s Box in which it lives.  Gendercide thrives underChina’s “one child” rule.  Gendercide in a number of other societies is the rule rather than the exception simply out of economic and cultural fears.  In India and China it it probably worst because it has deep roots.  Families worry about their elderly not being adequately cared for.  Women generally are not valued in the working world of these cultures because of their lesser strength to do physical work as well as their being considered less capable of dealing in “a man’s world.”  People in these cultures believe that having male children ensures adequate financial resources to see them through their later years without problems.

We can shake our heads, tsk-tsk the situation all we want, and think this kind of thing can never happen here inAmericabecause we value the equality of everyone.  Well, the Planned Parenthood video sting tells a different story.

Even in America, gender-selective abortions are being used to control the mix of children being raised in American families…perhaps right next door to you.  Even in America, the sex ratio at birth (SRB) is skewed beyond the 104:100 male-female ration that is considered neutral (the natural average without artificial interference by man).  It becomes more and more pronounced in second and third children indicating that families become more and more concerned with the sex of their child as they continue to have repeated female children.  The ethnic diversity ofAmerica is adding to this practice as ethnic groups that culturally support the pro-male child attitude grow.  They become statistically significant and skew the numbers even further.
