Martinsburg, WV – President Obama and his administration continue to ignore the people of America on the issue of life. More than once it has been made abundantly clear that a super, bi-partisan majority of Americans oppose abortion on demand and tax-payer funding for abortion. Yet our president and his administration continue to fund abortion both in America and abroad.
The Republican led House of Representatives have continued to uphold their promise to defend life and listen to Americans on the issue of abortion. Last week a bill was passed with overwhelming support from both parties that effectively strips abortion funding from Obamacare.
Many people were led to believe that no funding for abortion was contained in Obamacare and that further precautions were taken when the president signed an Executive Order declaring that no public (tax payer) funding could be used for abortion. The problem is that the presidents Executive Order holds no weight under the law of Obamacare which allows for indirect funding of abortion through the government insurance exchanges.
The Protect Life Act (HR 358) passed the House with a bi-partisan 251-172 vote and passed the first hurdle to permanently removing all funding from the new healthcare legislation. After the vote, House Speaker John Boehner was pleased with the outcome and that lawmakers listened to Americans.
“With this bipartisan legislation, we are continuing to keep our pledge to listen to the American people, who overwhelmingly oppose taxpayer funding of abortion…The people’s will should be reflected in the law of the land, as opposed to an executive order that has no force of law and was deliberately conceived for that reason.”
