What the Virginia Governor’s Race Teaches Us

A recent article states: “According to the exit poll published by CNN, Cuccinelli defeated McAuliffe among married women 51 percent to 42 percent…Cuccinelli also defeated McAuliffe among married men, 50 percent to 44 percent…Thus, according to the exit poll, Cuccinelli was the clear victor among married people (defeating McAuliffe 50 percent to 43 percent among this demographic), and was slightly more popular among married women than among married men.”

The lesson is that marriage provides a very different picture of life than being single does. A person’s entire worldview can change via marriage, and change again when children come into the picture. This is the reason President Obama concentrated much of his campaign efforts on the young, single demographic. It’s also why many polls show strong support for life, traditional marriage, and religious freedom among older, married demographics.

If we ever hope to see change happen in our country we must make an intentional effort to teach our kids. Liberal groups are doing all they can to teach our kids and exit polls show they are doing a great job. At some point we have to counter those efforts with our own effort to impart conservative, biblical, moral truth to our kids. It obviously makes a difference. Click here for original article.

Virginia Governor’s Race About More Than Just ObamaCare

Here’s how one article reported the support for a liberal running for Governor in Virginia: “Obama’s pitch for McAuliffe constituted a last-minute push by the White House and prominent Democrats to close the deal in the race’s final days. McAuliffe, the former Democratic National Committee chairman, has had help from former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Vice President Joe Biden was to do his part Monday, and first lady Michelle Obama lent her voice to radio ads backing McAuliffe.”

It seems McAuliffe has all the President’s men (and women) supporting him. I can only speak for myself, but that would be enough to make me want to hear from “the other guy.” McAuliffe is a liberal that supports abortion on demand, ObamaCare, marriage redefinition, and big government. What interests me is that he is very different than many of our lawmakers in West Virginia, and yet Virginia has common sense health and safety restrictions on abortion. While all most of our lawmakers claim to be pro-life, we still don’t even measures similar to a state that supported President Obama in the last election. That’s a problem. Engaging Weekend: WV Sen. Rockefeller Retiring, Pastor Disinvited from Inauguration Over Sermon on Homosexuality, AG Cuccinelli Says Jail Might Be A Good Protest of HHS Mandate

Engaging Weekend is a collection of articles you might have missed over the weekend. But we thought they were important and wanted to make sure you had a chance to read them.

West Virginia Sen. Rockefeller won’t seek re-election

Longtime Sen. Jay Rockefeller announced this weekend that he would not be seeking re-election in 2014. The 75 year old said it was time to spend more time with family. We hope he does. But it’s also true that after waging war on coal companies in West Virginia, Rockefeller’s popularity was fading and his seat was becoming more vulnerable. Conservatives in West Virginia have been eyeing the Democratic Senators seat for some time and are looking to fill it with a real conservative that will oppose measures like ObamaCare; a measure Rockefeller proudly supports to this day despite its declining popularity. This is an excellent opportunity to pro-life, pro-marriage conservatives to rally a victory for West Virginia by electing a true conservative that will accurately represent our state. Rockefeller has been a pro-abortion, social liberal for years that often toes the radical, liberal party line on issues of life, marriage, and religious freedom. Popular state representative Shelly Moore-Capito is rumored to be eyeing the Senate seat. Click here for original article.

Three Lessons from Recent Elections and How They Impact the 2012 Presidential Race

by Nathan A. Cherry, 11/14/2011

Martinsburg, WV – Last week saw elections in several states take place along with a number of ballot initiatives. Many were predicting that these early elections would be an indicator of the upcoming presidential election and what we could expect from it. If that’s the case it becomes important to see what we can learn from the outcome of the elections and ballot initiatives.

The first key to next year’s presidential race comes from Virginia. In a major victory for pro-lifers done in stunning upset fashion, pro-life advocates now control the House of Delegates, State Senate and Governor’s office thanks to the defeat of pro-abortion Senator Ed Houck by pro-life candidate Bryce Reeves in a close senate race. This victory is crucial because Houck controlled a powerful committee that prevented every pro-life bill from ever seeing the Senate floor. Now, with a pro-life majority in all branches of government, many expect numerous pro-life bills to pass and for Planned Parenthood to be defunded in Virginia.

Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser commented on the victory:

“Bryce Reeves’ win tonight is a tremendous victory for the pro-life movement and for the people of Virginia…Senator Houck has stood in opposition to countless pro-life legislation, preventing much of it from even reaching the floor for debate. With the election of Mr. Reeves, we expect that common sense pro-life legislation will now be able to move through the Senate and signed into law…All around the country, states have taken up the effort of defunding Planned Parenthood…With the Virginia state Senate in the hands of a pro-life majority, that effort can begin in this critical swing-state.”

Lesson number one is that life matters. You can believe that the issue of life will play a critical role in 2012’s presidential election as a majority of Americans are pro-life and ready to embrace life as a nation.

UPDATE: Fallout From Videos Exposing Planned Parenthoods Criminal Activity

By Nathan A. Cherry, 02/08/2011

Martinsburg, WV – Yesterday I brought you the recent videos released by Lila Rose and the Live Action Films group that expose the criminal exploitation of underage girls by five different Planned Parenthood facilities throughout Virginia and New Jersey. Now let me share some other events that have taken place as a result of these videos making waves across the United States.

The battle in New Jersey between Gov. Chris Christie and some state lawmakers that want to use tax-payer funds to fund Planned Parenthood and abortion has been widely reported. Gov. Christie cut the funds once, but lawmakers continued to seek access to those funds through various political maneuvers. A bill recently came back to Gov. Christie seeking to restore the public funding once again, but after seeing the videos release last week Gov. Christie rightly vetoed that bill and permanently cut public funding for Planned Parenthood and abortion in New Jersey. And we applaud Gov. Christie for doing so.

The very day the first video was released the manager of the New Jersey Planned Parenthood where the video was recorded found herself fired. Now, you might be a skeptic like me and believe she is just being moved to another position in another clinic somewhere, but let’s not go there. I’m just happy her criminal behavior is being investigated by the New Jersey Attorney General and several state authorities. If she is charged with criminal action you can bet she will turn on Planned Parenthood and show how this sort of behavior is not “inconsistent with our standards of care and is completely unacceptable,” as they claim. Rather, this is normal conduct for the criminal organization.

And how did Planned Parenthood respond to the videos being released? Initially they said the whole thing was a “hoax” and laughed it off. But as more videos were released they realized they would have to address the situation and bean looking for ways to do “damage control.” I’m curious though, if the whole thing was a “hoax” why did PP suspend the New Jersey manager immediately? Do you suspend someone over a hoax?

VIDEO: Undercover Footage Shows Planned Parenthood Helping Pimp Cover-Up Sex Trafficking Ring

VIDEO: Undercover Footage Shows Planned Parenthood Helping Pimp Cover-Up Sex Trafficking Ring
By Nathan A. Cherry, 02/07/2011

Martinsburg, WV – I hope you’ve had a chance to watch this disgusting video from Lila Rose’ Live Action Films. In it you will find a Planned Parenthood worker helping to cover up an underage sex-trafficking ring for a man pretending to be a pimp. You can’t make garbage like this up. Take a few moments to watch the video below and see for yourself.

Video #1 of Planned Parenthood in NJ helping to cover up underage sex-trafficking ring for a pimp:

But wait, that’s not all. Almost as if she could hear the cries of the left saying “that was just an isolated incident,” Rose and the Live Action Films crew recorded a second undercover sting operation at a Planned Parenthood in Virginia. The point? This is NOT an isolated incident; this is the operating protocol for Planned Parenthood. Their goal is to perform abortions and they will stop at nothing, including breaking the law and helping to pimp 14 year old girls in order to do it. Here, watch this second video:

Video #2 from Virginia Planned Parenthood:

And just in case your stomach juices aren’t churning, your blood isn’t boiling, your fists aren’t clenched and your teeth aren’t grinding yet; here’s three more videos that show much the same thing! So that’s five videos that show Planned Parenthood covering up the sex-trafficking of underage girls. Does that sound like an isolated or coincidental occurrence? Hardly.

Let’s be sure to salute and say a big “Thank-You” to president Obama for giving $350 million of our tax dollars to this bottom feeder organization that seeks to protect people that exploit our children. Our money is helping this law breaking criminal organization keep their doors open. Unacceptable.

Stay tuned for an in-depth story coming tomorrow on the events of the last week and how Lila Rose and Live Action Films have once again shown Planned Parenthood to be a worthless criminal organization desiring to exploit our children and push for more abortions.

The Engaging Essentials

Abstinence Study Released – Sometime last week, we advised you of HHS’ intent to hide a study on the importance of abstinence.  Citizenlink now reports that, due to your calls and emails, HHS has relented and is releasing this critical data.

Know Your Rights – As kids head back to schools, we are encouraging parents and students to familiarize yourselves with what is covered by the First Amendment in regards to religious expression within the public school system.  The Alliance Defense Fund provides very helpful guidance (scroll to bottom for PDF brochures).

Homeschooling Growing Fast – For those of you for which the above is inapplicable, maybe it’s because you’re among the fastest segment of education in America today: homeschooling.

Top Marine: We Don’t Want Gay Roomates – Stinging words from the top US Marines re: the repeal of DADT, “I can tell you that an overwhelming majority would like not to be roomed with a person who is openly homosexual,”

How to Repeal the First Amendment – David French explains in his typically fresh way.  Nondiscrimination just isn’t what it used to be anymore.

Stem Cell Plan Blocked – A Federal judge has blocked the implementation of President Obama’s embryonic stem cell research funding plan.  Tough to understand the issues, but this is an important pro-life victory.  For more reading on this decision, along with links to more in-depth study of the issue, visit Justin Taylor’s blog today.

Virginia Imposes Tough Regulations on Abortion Mills – Virginia AG Ken Cuccinelli has issued an opinion that permits the state to have greater oversight over the abortion industry in Virginia.  In other news, pre-born children in Virginia were seen breathing a sigh of relief.

Here We Go Again – Wyoming couple sues to challenge Wyoming law limiting marriage to one man and one woman.  Interestingly, Wyoming does not have an official Defense of Marriage Act, but it does have a statute defining marriage as a “civil contract” that if formed “between a male and a female person.”  West Virginians should watch this case with interest.  Similar logic could challenge WV’s DOMA, such as it is.

CA Gubernatorial Candidate Supports Prop 8 Appeal – Candidate for governor of California, Meg Whitman, says she would give standing to the proponents of Prop 8 to appeal Judge Walker’s decision from last month.  Not what I’d call an overwhelming endorsement of the people’s right of self-determination, but, then again, it is California.

Pope Right, Judge Wrong

Once again judges and courts are playing partisan political games, legislating from the bench, and ignoring obvious, common sense solutions to not-so-difficult cases.

In this particular instance is the continuing story of Lisa Miller, who is seeking complete separation from her former lesbian lover Janet Jenkins. The two were joined in a civil union in Vermont, and Miller gave birth to her daughter Isabella, before Miller left the homosexual lifestyle after becoming a Christian. Upon doing so she moved to Virginia where same-sex unions are not recognized.

But now a Virginia judge has decided he doesn’t like the laws in his state, and has decided to recognize Vermont civil unions. (Does anyone want to guess what the implications of this careless ruling will be?) And by doing so has said that Vermont has jurisdiction over the case, even though Isabella was born in Virginia where Miller has lived for several years now.

Miller will be headed back to Vermont soon for a much anticipated January 28 court date where a judge will decide who gets custody of Isabella. Quite frankly it would make absolutely no sense for anyone but the child’s biological mother to get custody. Courts have always ruled that biological parents have more rights to children, and when a child is being raised in a safe, secure, stable home with a biological parent where the child is thriving there is no cause to change such an arrangement.

Let’s hope the Vermont courts continue to uphold such a common sense idea. Because if they award custody to a non-biological person over the biological parent, where no abuse or neglect is present, they will signal that it is about political gain and not upholding the law or doing what is best in the interest of the child. And they will open a floodgate of unprecedented chaos in the court system for other non-biological persons to file for custody for seemingly no reason at all.

Ironically, Pope Benedict XVI recently told a conference of thousands of Mexicans that only an “undissolvable marriage between a man and a woman ought to be at the heart of a family,” according to a story released by AFP.

But if, as the Pope put it, “undissolvable marriage between a man and a woman” is pushed aside in favor of all sorts of other cohabitations, such as same-sex civil unions, it can be reasonably expected that the strength and stability of our society, which is drawn from the traditional family, will erode as well. And what we can expect in its place is a barrage of court battles where non-biological persons want custody of children with perfectly capable biological parents. And with activist judges already ignoring laws in favor of bench legislation, unprecedented rulings will inevitably take place.

This is what happens when we mess with the institutions that have provided structural stability for our society and culture for hundreds of years. If anyone is paying attention they will see that as we move farther from traditional marriage, family, and home, our society continues to further collapse on all other fronts. It is because these foundational institutions are intrinsically linked to every other aspect of our civilization. They are like dominos. To move one means to start a chain-reaction that will bring them all down. And when this happens, “We the people,” ceases to hold meaning.
